Clarence L. Cromer passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Sumter Retirement Village in Plains. Funeral services are planned for 11:00 AM on Friday, February 3, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Golden and Rev. Keith Parks officiating. Interment will be private. The following gentlemen are asked to serve as active pallbearers: Walt Wingard, Danny Wingard, David Wingard, Jamie Cromer, Jody Cromer, Dendy Cromer, and David Lewis. Jimmy West and Bobby Anderson are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday at First Baptist Church beginning at 10:00 AM. Born February 8, 1928 in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Clarence Wesley Cromer and the late Laura Jones Cromer. He was retired from an insurance sales position with American General, and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as deacon. Clarence loved being outside and tending to his yard. He was a devoted father and a beloved husband of 71 years. He loved his family deeply and was very close to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Marlene Grantham Cromer; one son, James Wesley "Jim" Cromer (Jackie); grandchildren: Mikki Cromer Lewis (David) and James Wesley "Jamie" Cromer, Jr. (Chealsea); and great-grandchildren: Sydney Kate Lewis, Hadley Lewis, Tate Cromer and Everly Cromer; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Sam Cromer, Julian Cromer, Harrold Cromer, Bill Cromer, Betty Cromer Grover, and Carolyn Cromer Nicholson.
