Cora Mae Mizio

October 4, 1926 — January 18, 2025

The homecoming of Cora Mae Mizio was January 18, 2025. She was met at heavens gate by her husband Edwin, and son, Steven, who preceded her in death. Cora, at the age of 98, died peacefully after a short illness at the home of her daughter, Alice, and her husband, in White Oak, Georgia surrounded by several family members. She dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her husband and three children. Cora was born October 4, 1926 in Horseheads, New York to the late Charles and Nellie Middaugh.

Growing up in a rural environment she experienced life’s many ups and downs. She was always on the move, even washing dishes, making her bed and folding clothes up to several months before her passing.

Cora is survived by her twin daughters, Nancy Judy (Luther) of Monroe, North Carolina and Alice Drury (Paul) of White Oak, Georgia. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cora was affectionately called “Basketball Grandma” because she loved playing any ball sport, especially basketball, with her great-grandchildren. Cora loved life and she was an avid gardener and loved to sew, making clothes for her twins and making a quilt. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church singing in the choir and helping wherever needed and was employed by several drug stores in Americus before retiring.

A graveside memorial service will be held on February 1, 2025 at 2:00PM at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Americus, Georgia.
