Darrell Theron Hobgood, 65, passed peacefully in his sleep in his home on January 17, 2024. Darrell was born in Americus Georgia to the late Theron Hobgood and Ms. Marjorie Slocumb Hobgood. He graduated from Southland Academy where he was Mr. Southland, was a multi-sport athlete, and a two-time member of the State Championship Basketball Team. Darrell attended Georgia Southwestern where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He served in Sumter and Webster Counties as an agent, then manager of Georgia Farm Bureau before retiring in 2015. He was the President and owner of Wolf Creek Sod for over thirty years. After retiring he started Hobgood Crop Insurance company. Darrell served on the Southland Board of Trustees and was an active member of St. John’s Anglican Church where he served as Treasurer and as a member of the Vestry. He was an avid Georgia sports fan and coached many of his sons' sports teams over the years. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jan Hobbs Hobgood, and his two amazing sons, Lijah Darrell Hobgood of Americus, and Landon Carl Hobgood of Albany; his mother, Marjorie Slocumb Hobgood, sisters Karen Broadhurst (Steve) of Americus, GA, Marlene Hobbs (Jimmie) of Cataula, GA and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 20th with Father Jim Barton officiating. The family will receive friends for a visitation at Hancock Funeral Home at 427 South Lee Street, Americus, Georgia on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. A private burial will be held at Trinity Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Mauk, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southland Academy or St. John’s Anglican Church.
