David Watson Pirkle passed away at Phoebe Sumter Hospital on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Visitation will be held in the Tabernacle at Pirkle Memorial Campground on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 1:00 pm with the service immediately following at 2:00 pm with Reverend Billy Anderson officiating.
David was born in Griffin, Georgia on January 6, 1938, to the late Journey Pirkle and Lillie Mae Pirkle. David grew up with his other siblings in Congregational Holiness Church and regularly attended camp meeting at Pirkle Memorial Campground. He was taught and understood what it meant to be a servant of the Lord and strived every day to sanctify himself as a man of God. His other great love was for his 3 children, Vida, David, and Nathan, and one grandchild, Noah. Having a family brought him great joy.
David was especially excited each year to attend camp meeting at Pirkle Memorial Campground worshipping God, praising His name, and singing in the choir. He was already shouting “Hallelujah” a week before the services started due to his excitement. It was the highlight of the year for him! He would often be found in the dining hall helping in the kitchen, cleaning up, and sharing his witness with others. He was always willing to lend a hand. He formed so many relationships with other fellow Christians through his experience in the church that not only did it touch his life; it created a conduit for him to touch many lives as well.
He is survived by his daughter, Vida Deann Hammack and Chip; sons, David Johnathan Pirkle and Nathan Watson Pirkle; grandson, Noah Thomas Hammack, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
