Mr. Earl Richard McCrary, age 78, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Services are planned for 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 15, in the committal pavilion at Andersonville National Historic Site. Interment will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery. Born December 27, 1941 in Montezuma, he was a son of the late Josephine Jolly. He was retired, after 30 years, as Master Chief of the United States Navy, having served on the USS Constellation, the USS Holland, the USS Pharris, and the USS Inchon. Mr. McCrary was a graduate of D.F. Douglass High School and Ft. Valley State University. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Ann McCrary; sons: Anthony D. Herron, Kevin U. Chappell, Steve B. Herron, and Steven H. Carter (Kenyatta); daughters: Lee W. Chappell-Ragin, Christy S. Robinson (Kenneth), Sharon A. Johnson (Timothy), Yolanda G. Carter (Kevin B. Dowdell), and Kimberly M. Campbell (David); two brothers: James Jerome Jolly (Montria) and Walter McCrary (Shirley); two sisters: Charlie Mae Hill (Percy) and Eleanor Higgs (James); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: George Lundy (Christine), Dwayne Lundy (Mary), Jeffery Lundy, Catherine Nelson, Elaine Sims (Jamison), Maria Coley (Terrell), Anita Lyles (the late Willie Lee Lyles), Sherronda Lundy (Kevin); 23 grandchildren, including: Cyanne Herron, Shaundel Crutch, Mariah Dowdell, Crystal Carter, Jermaine Solomon, Devonte Floyd, and Lil Steve; and 11 great-granchildren.
