Ellen Pilcher Abell

June 1, 1964 — June 29, 2024

Mrs. Ellen Carolyn Pilcher Abell, age 60, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at her home in Leslie.

Funeral services are planned for 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 3, at First Baptist Church of Americus, with Rev. Keith Parks and Rev. Colton Taunton officiating. Burial is to follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen are asked to serve as pallbearers: Dean Batts, Roger Lowe, Charles Burgamy, Gary Abell, Gary Roberts, and John Heath.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, July 2, between the hours of 5:00 & 7:30 PM, at First Baptist Church, Americus, Ga.

A native of Sumter County, Mrs. Abell was born June 1, 1964, a daughter of the late Cliff and Phinie Pilcher. She was a 1982 graduate of Southland Academy and a 1986 graduate of Georgia Southwestern State University, where she was an active member of the Baptist Student Union.

Mrs. Abell was an active member of First Baptist Church of Americus. She loved to read God’s Word and teach others about Jesus. She wanted her life to glorify God.

Always up for an adventure, she loved the beach and Callaway Gardens.  She was a loving attentive mother, having homeschooled her children. She was a preschool teacher at First Baptist Church Preschool, formerly employed by the Tog Shop, and was the first "shop girl" at Roberts' Jewelers. She was fondly known as the "Blueberry Lady" at Lenny's Market, and was known for her Orange Blossoms at Calvary Baptist Church's New Years Eve Gospel Sings. But, she was most famous for her smile and laugh!

Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Hamer Abell; daughter, Emily Abell Waters (Levi); sons: Caleb Abell (Jasmine) and Jacob Abell; grandson, Dawson Waters; brother, Cliff Pilcher (Laurie); father-in-law, Leonard Abell (Hilda); brother-in-law, Gary Abell (Teresa); and several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Joyce Abell.

For those wishing to do so, memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church or First Baptist Church Preschool 221 S. Lee St., Americus, GA 31709; or to GSW BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministries) 202 Tanner St., Americus, GA 31709.
