Mr. Emory Harold "Hal" Gaultney passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. A private family funeral service with military honors is planned for 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 13, in the committal pavilion at Andersonville National Historic Site. Burial will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 12, between the hours of 4:00 & 6:00 PM at the Roberta/Crawford Civic Center on South Mathews Street in Roberta, GA. A native of Crawford County, GA, he was born in Warner Robins, GA on November 20, 1944, son of the late Emory Edgar Gaultney and the late Sarah Ellen Reeves Gaultney. He was retired from the United States Army, having served from January 1967 through April 30, 1990. He graduated from Officers Candidate School on November 9, 1967, and was in the US Army Corps of Engineers as a Combat Engineer. He served in Vietnam from 1968 through 1969. After retirement from the Army as Lieutenant Colonel, he worked from 1990 through 2012 in Huntsville, AL as a Senior Software Engineer for Coleman Research, Dynetics, and Boeing, where he led teams designing software for missile defense. His family describes him as an amazing person who was greatly involved in community work. He was of the Protestant faith. Survivors include his loving wife, Janice McLeroy Gaultney of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; one son, Ben Reeves Gaultney of Birmingham, AL; one daughter, Amy Gaultney Hunley (Terry Eugene Hunley) of Atlanta; grandchildren: Porter Eugene Hunley and Kate Reeves Hunley, both of Atlanta; brothers: Cary Gaultney of Thomaston, GA, Gary Gaultney (Aurelia Sanders Gaultney) of Culloden, GA, and Chip Gaultney (Patsy Ranow Gaultney) of Reynolds, GA; sisters: Diane Gaultney Mitchell of Chicago, IL, and Penny Gaultney Mabe (Jerry Watson Mabe) of Cumming, GA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jon Stanford Gaultney of Yatesville, GA; and a sister-in-law, Kaye Hobbs Gaultney of Thomaston, GA.
