Mrs. Evelyn Jacobs McDonald, age 90, passed away on Monday morning, January 28, 2019, at her home in Plains. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 2, at Plains Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Lebanon Cemetery. Rev. Buck Kinney will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 1, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., between the hours of 5:00 & 7:30 PM. Born December 11, 1928 in Hoboken, she was a daughter of the late Bill Ebenizer Jacobs and the late Clara Altoman Jacobs. Mrs. McDonald, retired from Manhattan Shirt Factory, was later employed at Plains Nursing Home. She was a founding member of Plains Historic Trust and was a member of Plains Baptist Church. Mrs. McDonald was a member of several social clubs throughout the years, including the WMU, Garden Club, Sunshine Club, and P.A.L.S. Club. She showed her love for others by using her hands - cooking, gardening, sewing, and playing cards. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. McDonald, a former teacher at Plains High School and former Mayor of Plains; by siblings: "ML" Jacobs, Bill Jacobs, Betty Jean Jacobs Walker, and Lissie Jacobs Bunch; son-in-law, Wendall Alfors; and by brothers-in-law: JC Bunch and William "Bill" Dockery. Survivors include one son, Dale McDonald & his wife Cathy Justice McDonald; two daughters: Angela McDonald Alfors and Gail McDonald Lowery & her husband Richard Lowery, Jr.; grandchildren: Christina McDonald, Lindsey McDonald, Hannah Lowery, and Madelaine Lowery Pesce & her husband Matthew Pesce; one sister, Doris Dockery; one brother, Tobey Jacobs & his wife Lavinia Jacobs; and a sister-in-law, Hazel Jacobs.
