July 30, 1931 — February 23, 2020

Ms. Gwendolyn Mae Dech Eckert, age 88, of Americus, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Ms. Eckert was born July 30, 1931 in Akron, Ohio, a daughter of the late Walter John Dech and the late Hazel Mae Fine Dech. She enjoyed a long career as a Registered Nurse and retired from Sumter Regional Hospital. Mrs. Eckert enjoyed life to its fullest and always had a smile and kind word for everyone she met. She loved to travel and share stories of her many adventures all over the world. She is survived by her family, Doug and Renee' Becton of Americus. She was lovingly known as "Gwennie" to Jordan Parker (Liz & Avonlea), Joshua Becton (Char) all of Americus; and Hannah Allen (Bura, Cohen, & Connor) of Cordele; and a dear friend, Mary Ferrill of Americus; along with many friends who treasure her memory. A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, February 25, between the hours of 6:00 & 7:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. A Celebration of Her Life will be planned in March at Andersonville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chris Wooden officiating.
