James Lee Moseley, 73, of Morgantown, WV passed away peacefully on January 12, 2020. James was born on February 19, 1946, in Valdosta, a son of the late Mary Kate Causey Moseley and Rolf Earl Moseley. He graduated from Americus High School where he met his future wife and mother of his children, Lillian Johnson.
James went on to earn advanced degrees in electrical engineering and mathematics at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Duke University, and Purdue University. In 1969, he married Lil before eventually moving to West Virginia and beginning his teaching career in 1979 as a mathematics professor at West Virginia University from which he eventually retired in 2018. In the interim, Jim also worked part-time at the Morgantown Energy Technology Center and EG&G where he helped in research of coal technology and successfully raised two young children after Lil’s untimely death in 1986.
In his free time, he enjoyed attending church services, drinking coffee while socializing with friends, keeping up with politics, and playing with his grandchildren. He was a longtime member of the Avery United Methodist Church of Morgantown.
He was preceded in death by his wife and soulmate, Lillian Moseley, and his older brother, William Moseley. He is survived by his son, James Moseley II and wife Bethany of Twinsburg, Ohio; his daughter, Amy Cumpston and husband Jared of Morgantown; his grandchildren, Ethan, Owen, Rebecca, and Rachel; as well as many other relatives and friends.
The family received friends at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home in Morgantown WV on Thursday, January 16, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. immediately followed by funeral services officiated by Pastor Jenny Williams of Avery UMC.
A committal service is planned for 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 19, from the graveside at Vienna City Cemetery, with Rev. Brooks Partain officiating.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, any contributions of remembrance be made to Avery United Methodist Church, 1152 Cheat Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.
