Mr. James Sosby, age 71, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at his home in Americus.Funeral services are planned for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 17, at Lee Street United Methodist Church, with Rev. Brooks Partain, Dr. Dennis Stalvey, Rev. John Brodess, and Rev. Betty Lee Scott officiating. Interment will follow at 4:00 PM in Middle Georgia Memorial Gardens in Macon.The following gentlemen are asked to serve as pallbearers: John Robert Radford, Jeremy Radford, Tony Spivey, Shawn Spivey, David Ragsdale, Danny Ryle, John Linneman, Shannon Brown, Everett Lossiah, and Hunter Sosby.The family will receive friends on Monday, April 16, between the hours of 6:00 & 8:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St.Born March 11, 1947 in Commerce, GA, he was a son of the late Marvin Sosby and Jeanette Beaver Sosby, who survives him. Mr. Sosby was retired from the I.T. Department at Metalux and Cooper Lighting. He loved serving his church, Lee Street United Methodist Church, where as he served as a Sunday school teacher for 42 years, as a lay speaker, choir member, board member of most church committees, and president of the Men's Club. He was very involved in The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), and served as the local director.He enjoyed working in his yard, and was a hunter safety instructor for 25 years.Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ryle Sosby, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on March 17, 2018; his mother, Jeanette Beaver Sosby; one brother, Roger "Marty" Sosby (Karen); one sister, Wanda S. Brown (Shannon); nephews: Jeremy Radford (Haley), John Robert Radford, Hunter G. Sosby, Everett Lossiah, Tony Spivey, and Shawn Spivey (Kim), and their children Shawn Spivey, Jr. and Ashton Spivey; and his beloved little dog, Sweetie Pie.For those wishing to do so, memorial contributions are suggested to UMCOR, P.O.
