Virgina (Jenny) Dale Lashley, 90, passed away peacefully on September 22 at her home in Americus, GA, after a long and fulfilled life. She was born in El Paso, Texas and as a young girl moved to California with her family, then as a teenager back to El Paso, Texas where she met her husband Bob Lashley. At the age of 19 she married the love of her life and moved with him to Georgia, leaving Texas behind.
She was a stay-at-home mom to raise four children. She played tennis, attended aerobics and Zumba classes until her 80s, took artist painting classes and would challenge anyone to a game of ping pong. She enjoyed the simple things in life, the sunrise over her lake, one small glass of wine every evening (or maybe two!), and hosting parties to celebrate everything in life. She square danced, loved to travel, and she loved the ocean and walking on the beach. She loved Charlie Rich music and she loved going to lunch with her special friends every Friday. Jenny loved her church, First Methodist Americus, and especially her Epworth Sunday school class who are asked to be Honorary Pallbearers. Jenny loved life and will be dearly missed by those who knew her best.
One would one think that she would consider herself to be a Georgian after living in Georgia for over 70 years, however as much as she loved Georgia, she will correct you quickly and remind you she was a proud Texan!
She loved to travel and new adventures but she loved coming back home to Americus most of all. Jenny was a rare combination of someone who had a love for life and a firm understanding of what was most important ... Her God, her large extended family and her devoted dog Suzzy.
Jenny was predeceased by her parents, Frida and Cecil Dale and her brother Alan Dale.
She leaves behind her devoted husband of 71 years Robert “Bob" Eugene Lashley, the love of her life. She will be greatly missed by her devoted children and their spouses: Gene Lashley (Peter), Linda Lashley Owen (Jim), Tammy Lashley, and Steve Lashley (Susan). Her grandchildren Tyler Simmons (Niki), Dexter Lashley (Madison), Alex “A.J.”Lashley, Mimi Blaine Lashley , George Teaford (Dana), Shelby DeCusati (Justin), Travis Owen (Bethany}, Brandon Owen, Amanda “Mandy” Levesque (Nick), and Garrett Owen (Alyssa), 12 Great Grandchildren, and her sister Lou Uher from Albuquerque NM.
The family would love to thank all of her wonderful caregivers that helped her until the end: Sherrie Trice, Patsy Robinson, Dorothy Ann Mackey, and Shirley Bleckey!
A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Lashley on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11:00am at First Methodist Church, with Rev. Daryl Brown officiating.
