Mr. Jerry Eugene Roberts passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020 at his home in Americus. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 12, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Rev. Andrew Stucker officiating. Private interment will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends between the hours of 1:00 & 2:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Born September 18, 1939 in Atlanta, he was a son of the late Arnold Roberts and the late Jewell James Roberts. Mr. Roberts was retired after 25 years as a POST Certified Safety Officer, having held positions at South Georgia Technical College and Georgia Southwestern State University. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a beloved father and a great friend to many. He enjoyed drawing and painting and was an excellent sign maker. He loved music, having learned to play by ear, and was proud of his Cherokee / Creek American Indian ancestry and heritage. Survivors include his loving wife, Virginia Lee Harris Roberts of Americus; two sons: Martin Scott Roberts (Wanda Gail) of Plains, and Darren Kelly Roberts of Americus; two grandchildren: Danielle Roberts of Albany, and Nicholas Roberts of Americus; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Felton Roberts and Basil Roberts. For those wishing to do so, memorial contributions are suggested to Phoebe Sumter Hospice, P.O.
