Larry Douglas "Doug" Dinsmore

Mr. Larry Douglas "Doug" Dinsmore, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 PM on Friday, April 7, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Rev. Jim English officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. The following gentlemen are asked to serve as pallbearers: Thomas Welch, Tucker Welch, Garrett Scarborough, Chris Francis, Chet Nowell, and Darrell Ambos. The family will receive friends on Friday beginning at 12:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, and at other times at the family home on Douglas Drive. Born February 26, 1945 in Forsyth County, he was a son of the late Randolph Dinsmore and the late Shirley Inez Anglin. He was employed as manager of Goodyear and later in sales at Sumter EMC. Following his retirement, he continued serving citizens of our area when he joined the staff of Hancock Funeral Home. A Freemason for 45 years, he was Past Master of M.B. Council Lodge No. 13, Free and Accepted Masons, having served several terms. He also belonged to several other Masonic bodies, and was a member of the John D. Mathis Post #2 of the American Legion, and a member of the VFW. A He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served from May 1964 through May 1967. Serving during Viet Nam, he was proud of his many jumps as a paratrooper. Doug was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Americus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Dinsmore; and by a brother, Dennis Dinsmore. Survivors include his wife, Candy Dinsmore; two daughters: Missy Welch and Adrian Scarborough (Richard); grandchildren: Thomas Cameron Welch, Tucker Riley Welch, and Garrett Wade Scarborough; one sister, Wanda Sue Raper (Paul Lamarre); and one niece and one nephew.
