Leonora Blackburn Shumake Jones

Mrs. Leonora Blackburn Shumake Jones, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at her home in Americus.

Funeral services are planned for 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 21, at Cornerstone Church with Pastor Kevin Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening between the hours of 6:00 & 8:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., and at other times at the family residence, 149 Sylvan Drive.

Born June 17, 1929 in Savannah, GA. she was a daughter of the late Montford Owen Blackburn, Sr. and the late Maggie Belle Morgan Blackburn. She was retired from a data processing position at Georgia Southwestern College, also having worked as a secretary at Georgia Southwestern College, Jones Piping, and Seaboard Railroad.

She loved traveling and entertaining, hosting monthly dinner parties. A member of Cornerstone Church, she was active in church activities, especially Bible Study and Retired Tuesdays.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands: Wyatt Allen Shumake, Sr. and Robert Jones, Sr; by her son, W. Allen Shumake, Jr.; and by her siblings.

Survivors include her daughters: Mary South, Angie Livesay, and Melanie Shumake Hawkins (Rich); grandchildren: Shawna King, Micah Ward (Ashley), Shannon South, Shara Horne, Marlea Hawkins, Roman Hawkins, Asher Hawkins, and Bryton Hawkins; great-grandchildren: Robert King, Ryan King, Olivia King, Dylan King, Alaya Horne, Wyatt Ward, Killian Horne, and Lawson Ward; daughter-in-law Gina Thomson; “adopted daughters”: Judy Lloyd and Ailliene Phillips; step-children: Bobby Jones, Claire Thompson, and Judy Crawley; many nieces and nephews; and a very large extended family, all of whom she loved dearly.
