Lois Ann Kessler West, age 96, passed away on Saturday morning, October 9, 2021, at her home in Navarre Gardens North in Navarre, Florida. Her husband, Robert James West, Sr., was by her side. Committal services are planned for 2:00 PM on Monday, November 15, , from the committal pavilion at Andersonville National Historic Site, with the blessing of the grave site to follow. Family and friends will meet between the hours of 1:00 and 1:30 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., and will travel in procession to Andersonville. Born December 17, 1924 in Sheffield, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late George Kessler and the late Clara Magdalene Augustine Kessler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: James Kessler and Richard Kessler and his wife Betty. Survivors include her husband, Robert James West, Sr.; her children: Alicia Marie West of Birmingham, AL; Robert James West, Jr., his wife Rachell West, and their two children Sara and Benjamin West of Melbourne, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Lois was a graduate of the Sisters of Loretto High School in Montgomery, AL. Shortly after high school, she worked for the Civil Service in Montgomery, and it was during this time that she met her husband, an enlisted service man stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base. Lois married Robert and they were stationed in Dover, Delaware where both of their children were born. They then moved back to Montgomery and resided on Azalia Drive. From there, the family moved to Huntsville, AL where Lois worked at Redstone Arsenal. After several years, they returned to Montgomery where Lois became a long-standing member of St. Bede Catholic Church and Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She worked for H&R Block on and off during her time in Montgomery, and was a member of the Business and Professional Women's League of Montgomery, St. Peter's Sodality, and PABS Club. After retirement, Lois and Robert moved to the Air Force Enlisted Village in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, where they enjoyed their retirement years together. In March of 2021, they moved to Navarre Gardens North Assisted Living Facility in Navarre, where Lois passed away in October.
