Louise Dowdey

Mrs. Louise Estell Pritchard Dowdey, age 80, passed away on July 8, 2023 at the home of her oldest son, Arthur Strickland. A visitation will be conducted from 2 until 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, at Hancock Funeral Home on South Lee Street. For those who prefer to show their love through a charitable contribution, family members suggest they be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Born October 9, 1942, in Americus, Mrs. Dowdey was a daughter of the late Ernest and Ida Pritchard. She was a Christian by faith and an employee of Scotts Bedding. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dowdey was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Sonny Dowdey, a son, Tim Strickland, a daughter, June Denney, two brothers, Bobby Pritchard and Clyde Pritchard, four grand-children, T. J. Strickland, Jonathan “Juicy” Strickland, Thomas Callier, and Mitchell Dowdey. Survivors include four sons, Arthur Strickland, Rick Strickland and wife Denise, Rudy Dowdey and wife Carolyn, and Brian Dowdey and wife Angie; two daughters, Tammy C. White and Marsha Dowdey; a daughter-in-law, Gwen Strickland; three brothers, Larry Pritchard and wife Monica, Lawrence Pritchard and wife Joyce, and J.P. Pritchard; three sisters, Maryann Black and husband John, Button, and Carolyn Adams and husband Wayne; grandchildren: Krystal Strickland, Ashley Strickland, Magen Strickland, Kandice Recker, Amanda Strickland, Brandon Callier, Timothy Strickland, Stephanie Strickland, R.J. Strickland, Alex Denney, Kari Denney, Brooks Wright, Jonathan Dowdey, Melissa Dowdey, Steven Dowdey, Kimberly Renfroe, Brittany Collins, Paxton Hanson, and Brooke Peak; and 38 great-grandchildren.
