Mary Alice Nelms

Mary Alice “Sis” Nelms, age 70, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Services are planned for 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 25, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Pastor Sims Jones officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, May 24, at Hancock Funeral Home, between the hours of 6:00 & 8:00 PM, and friends may also call for one hour preceding services on Wednesday. Born March 29, 1952 in Parker, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late George Switzer and the late Margaret Bailey Switzer. Mrs. Nelms was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. She enjoyed cutting grass and doing volunteer work with the Salvation Army. She dearly loved her family and her fur babies Bella and Brutus. in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Jim Shay, Donald Shay, and David Penman. Survivors include her husband Carl Benjamin Nelms with whom she had been in love for 22 years; her daughter Angela Adams (Jason); four grandchildren: Austin Adams, Jason Adams, Jr., Shadow Adams, and Harvey Adams “Baby Boy”.; two great-grandchildren: Aubrey Adams and Dawson Adams; brother Robert Switzer (Autumn); and several nieces and nephews.
