Merle Easter Smith

Mr. Merle Easter Smith, age 72, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, at his home in Plains.

Funeral services are planned for 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Concord Church, 1996 GA Hwy 30 West, Americus, with Reverends Gary Page and Steve Morris officiating. Graveside service to follow at Smith Cemetery at Friendship, 2404 GA Hwy 30 West, Americus. The following will serve as pallbearers: Ben Buchanan, Caleb Cochran, Jim Gaston, Brad Hagerson, Chris Hagerson, Jody Hagerson, and Kevin Hagerson.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at Hancock Funeral Home in Americus, from 5:30-7:30 pm.

Born October 11, 1952, in Americus, he was the son of the late Richard Easter Smith and the late Hazel Hagerson Smith. Mr. Smith was a faithful, lifelong member of Concord Church. He was a self-employed farmer for 43 years. He also worked with Arrow Pest Control and the United States Postal Service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Charlotte Kathryn Reddish, a brother-in-law, Newt Buchanan, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joy and Johnny Eason.

He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 50 years, Patricia Eason Smith of Plains, son Mitchell (Jennifer) Smith of Plains, daughters Katie (Tee) Reddish of Ellaville and Jeri Ann (Garrett) Faircloth of Juliette, grandchildren Mary Thomas, Myles, Neal, and Porter Smith, Sam and Annie Reddish, and Wells and Hazel Faircloth, sisters Jennifer Buchanan and Beth (Bill) Cochran, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Concord Church Mission Fund, 1996 GA Hwy 30 West, Americus, GA, 31719.
