Mitzi Sloke Davis, aged 100 plus, entered eternal life on January 14, 2019. Though Mitzi had made her home in Americus for 48 years, she resided in Gray since 2011. Mitzi grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, the youngest of six children, all of whom have preceded her in death. An early marriage ended in divorce. After graduating from business school, she relocated to Columbus, GA, where her brother and family lived. She worked many years at Jordan Mills as secretary and stenographer. In 1952, Mitzi married Alton Davis, Jr., who predeceased her in 1982. Some will remember The Trading Post that she and Alton operated in Americus. Multi-talented, Mitzi is especially remembered for her 17 years as choir director and organist at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. She also was a piano teacher, both in her home and in Ellaville, where she taught elementary and high school students. Her lovely singing voice graced many a wedding or funeral in the area. Mitzi is survived by her son, David, of Gray, formerly of Americus, and his wife Sandy; daughter, Jacqueline Henss, of California; step-sons: Jim Davis of Conyers, Jerry Davis of Pt. Lookout, MO; as well as 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Two sons, Kenneth Warren and Timothy Davis, have predeceased their mother. Friends are invited to join the family on Saturday, January 26, at Oak Grove Cemetery at 10:30 AM where a viewing will precede the graveside service at 11:00. Former pastor, the Rev. Sam Maves, will offiate. Burial will take place after the service. During a reception and lunch at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church following the service, all will have an opportunity to reminisce, sharing memories of Mitzi. The family in honoring Mitzi's wishes, requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 236 GA Highway 27, Americus, GA 31709; or to the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, 5582 Peachtree Rd, Chamblee, GA 30341.
