Mr. Mordecai "Deke" Walker, age 77, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023 at his home in Americus. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 PM on Monday, February 13, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Rev. James Burke officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 noon on Monday at Hancock Funeral Home, and for a short time following services. Friends are welcome to call at other times at the family residence, 234 Bell Street. Born February 27, 1945 in Tifton, he was a son of the late Jimmie Lee Walker and the late Lillie Woods Walker. Self-employed for 51 years as a crop duster, he was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church. He was a 32° Scottish Rite Mason, having been a member of the old Smithville Masonic Lodge, was a Shriner and member of Al Sihah Shrine Temple; and was a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans Alexander H. Stephens Camp #78. He loved to talk, never meeting a stranger, and enjoyed playing music, flying and farming. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Micah Walker; and by three brothers: David Walker, Danny Walker, and Bob Walker; and a sister, JoAnn Tallent. Survivors include his wife, Irene Manning Walker; two sons: Tal Walker (Tonya) and Kai Walker; his favorite daughter, Tabatha Walker Peshel; grandchildren: Ansleigh Peshel, Reilly Peshel, and Aiden Walker; sisters: Carlene Zorn (Tom) and Wanda Knox; brother, Larry Walker (Janice); brother-in-law, David Tallent; sisters-in-law: Beth Walker and Laurette Walker; and several nieces and nephews, including Selinn Legg (Mike) and Sherrin Mira (Jeff).
