Patricia Ann Castellow Cook

January 20, 1942 — December 31, 2023

Patricia Ann Castellow Cook, 81, passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord on December 31, 2023, after an extended illness. Born on January 20, 1942 in Honolulu, Hawaii, she was one of three children born to the late Dr. Willliam Franklin Castellow and Evelyn Thompson Castellow. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bryant Thomas Castellow and James Thompson Castellow, and her former husband, Thomas Gordon Cook. Patricia is survived by her daughter Cynthia Cook Fyfe and husband, Stan Fyfe, of Flowery Branch, GA; her son Chris Cook and wife, Kimberly Payne Cook, of Raleigh, NC; her six grandchildren, Kimberly Smallwood Gregory and husband, Jonathan Gregory, Lee Fyfe, Michael Fyfe and wife, Chloee Jankiewicz Fyfe, Rachel Cook Guynes and husband, Tyler Guynes, Sarah Anne Cook and Abigail Cook; and four great-grandchildren, Leah and Nathan Gregory, Wesley McDowell and William Guynes. Patricia graduated from Americus High School in 1960, Georgia Southwestern College with an Associates Degree in Nursing in 1963, the Medical College of Georgia in 1976 with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, and from Emory University in 1977 with a Masters in Nursing specializing in Psychiatric-Community Mental Health Nursing. Her entire professional career was dedicated to helping others; primarily through psychiatric and labor and delivery nursing. She passed on her love of caring for others as she was a gifted teacher. Patricia taught nursing at Macon Junior College, Clayton State College and finally at her alma mater, Georgia Southwestern where she spent the final years of her career. Patricia was a highly intelligent, compassionate and caring lady who was a dedicated mother, Mema, and loyal friend. She was always ready to work hard without complaining until the task was complete. She loved crafts and the arts, as she created handmade dresses, needlepoint, quilting and crochet. She loved her church family and was an active participant in the choir and women’s ministries. Patricia Ann Castellow Cook will be remembered for her dedication to her family and her kindness, love and compassion for others. A service to celebrate Patricia’s life will be held on Saturday, January 13th, 2024, at Americus First Methodist Church (200 South Lee Street, Americus, GA 31709) starting at 11:00am, followed by a visitation in the Fellowship Hall at Noon. Patricia will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus.
