Rindall Ray Dunston passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 with his devoted wife, Mamie and family by his side. Rindall was born in Alabama to the late Leonard Clinton and Queen Elizabeth Dunston. He was the last surviving child of five children. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leonard M. Dunston, Billy Jean Dunston and Jerry Dunston; a sister, Peggy Boozer; and a nephew, Larry Boozer. Rindall served active duty in the Army from 1962 to 1965. He was a member of the Army Security Agency serving at the Herzo Base in Germany during his military career. After the military, he began a 30 year career in law enforcement serving in Americus and Leslie, where he retired as Chief of Police in 1999, after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Rindall would continue to serve others after retirement by working at Habitat for Humanity International for a few more years. He and Mamie also volunteered as Campground Hosts at several Georgia State Parks. Rindall fought Parkinson’s for over 21 years and in the last few years, though the disease had slowed him down, his personality never dimmed. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 51 years, Mamie G. Dunston of the home; two children, Lee Dunston (Sommer) of Tifton and Dee Dee Connell (Freeman) of Americus; nine grandchildren, Lance Dunston (Samantha), Christopher Dunston, Emily Kay Dunston, Brandon Dunston, Kindall Strahan (Scott), Michael Connell, Madelyn Dunston, Hollee Dunston and Megan Dunston; eight great grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews, Pam Mullins (Paul), Cindy Quirk (Steve), Anita Jullianna (John), Lazann Douglas (Neal), Donnie Boozer (Susan), Kent Dunston, Barry Dunston and Stacy Dunston (Kelly); a special sister-in-law, June Dunston McKleroy; his beloved and loyal dog, Kona; numerous Army friends, and friends that are considered family. Funeral services are planned for 12:00 noon on Friday, August 16, from the committal pavilion at Andersonville National Historic Site. Chaplain Kurt Zander will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, beginning at 10:00 AM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. In lieu of flowers donations are requested to a charity of your choice.
