Rose Ann Arnett Dupree

Mrs. Rose Ann Arnett Dupree, age 88, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at her home in the Gardens of Calvary in Columbus. Funeral services are planned for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 11, at Central Baptist Church with Dr. Bryan Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Concord Cemetery. The following gentlemen are asked to serve as pallbearers: Melvin Kinslow, Bill Gardner, Wilkie Smith, Billy Stubbs, Ty Kinslow, Rob Ivey, and Larry Collins. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, April 10, between the hours of 6:00 & 8:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. Born October 20, 1934 in Atlanta, she was a daughter of the late Alva Hoyt Arnett and the late Bonnie Myrtle Goodwin Arnett. A 1952 graduate of Manchester High School, she attended Tift College in Forsyth, where she graduated in 1958 with an AB Degree with Bible Major. She served as educational director, church secretary and organist at Devotie Baptist Church in Griffin, and as organist at Central Baptist Church for many years. Her teaching career, which spanned 32 years, included positions at Thalean Elementary, Lawrence Kindergarten, and Southland Academy. Mrs. Dupree's favorite activities included teaching adult Sunday school classes for over fifty years and teaching Bible to eighth grade students at Southland Academy. She was an avid reader and was never happier than playing the organ for church services. She cherished her family and friends. In addition to her parents who adopted her at 3 months of age, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Alfred Dupree, to whom she was married on July 10, 1960; her birth parents, Jesse Peyton Ethridge and Doris Ethridge; and her sister, Ann Ethridge Brown. Survivors include her children: Fred Dupree (Sara) and Lee Ann Dupree Tipton (Ric); grandchildren: Henry Dupree (Aly), Oliver Dupree (Jessica), Neil Tipton, and Daniel Tipton (Sydney); great-grandchildren: Ben Dupree, Will Dupree, and Norah Ann Tipton; brother, Frank Ethridge; and nieces and nephews: Mary Ann Ethridge, Mark Ethridge, Peyton Brown, and Lee Brown Johnson.
