Sondra Dianne Dawson Littlefield

August 27, 1937 — May 17, 2020

Sondra Dianne Littlefield, of Americus, went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, May 17th. She was born August 27, 1937, in Savannah, Ga, the daughter of Homer Alexander and Mary Ruth Smith Dawson. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at a later date with details to be announced. Sondra was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church and dearly loved her Lord. She was the widow of Jim Littlefield, Sr. Sondra was a homemaker and made many of the clothes for her children. She loved art, initially fascinated with colorful flowers and landscapes. She graduated with honors from Georgia Southwestern College (now University) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts concentrating upon printmaking. Sondra’s original handpulled prints included etchings, intaglios, collographs, lithographs and dry points. Along with local artists Ginny Hodges and Norma Hooks, she was an owner of the Windsor Gallery. Until her health slowed her, Sondra showed her work in many One and Two Artist Shows as well as many art shows and festivals over the years. Her grandchildren have fond memories of traveling with their grandparents to these events. Sondra won over fifty awards in watercolor and printmaking but was most proud that her art had been in collections at the White House, Georgia Supreme Court, Georgia Southwestern State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, the Japan External Trade Organization, Furman University and in many private collections. Sondra is survived by two sons: James Ross (Jimbo) Littlefield, Jr. and Timothy Dawson Littlefield; three beloved grandchildren: Ross Littlefield of Bridgeport, CT; Jake Littlefield of Woodstock; and Dianne (Jordan) Gay of Dawson; two very special great-grandchildren: Hadley and Henry Gay of Dawson; one nephew and three nieces; a son-in-law, Bobby Valentino of Moultrie; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Littlefield of Warner Robins. She thoroughly enjoyed the special visits by her niece Stephanie. Sondra was particularly fond of her dogs Louie and Fido. In addition to her parents, Sondra was predeceased by her husband; her daughter, Eleanor Roberts (Robin) Littlefield Valentino; her two sisters Alexis Wells and Celeste Mallard; and brother-in-law Ralph Wells. Contributions in her memory may be made to Phoebe Sumter Hospice, P.O. Box 1434, Americus, GA 31709; or the Central Baptist Church Benevolent Committee, 190 Upper River Rd, Americus, GA 31709.
