William Earl Goare

Mr. William Earl Goare, age 94, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A celebration of life is planned for 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 10, at Richland Methodist Church with Pastor Leanette Roberson officiating.  Interment will follow in Harmony Cemetery in Richland.   The family will receive friends between the hours of 1:00 & 2:00 PM at the church on Wednesday. The youngest child of Leven Wesley Goare and Willie Hudson Goare, Bill grew up and graduated from high school in Richland. He enlisted in the Navy during WWII and was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida.Bill married Gladys Bullock in April, 1945.  After living in Tuskegee, Alabama and Macon, Georgia, they settled in New Orleans, where Bill was in the grocery business, first as a store manager, then for many years as a district sales manager for the Gerber Baby Products Company. They were married for 61 years before Gladys passed away in 2006.After Gladys’ death, Bill moved back to Richland, where he reconnected with old friends and made many new ones. In 2009, he married Mary Tindol, also of Richland. Mary passed away in 2018.Bill loved to garden, and could make anything grow with his ‘black gold”, as he called his compost. He loved his family, and its history, and telling stories about Richland. He was a friend to all, and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Levada Henderson, Addie Thomason, and Laverne Chambless, and his brothers Guy Goare and Pic Goare. He is survived by his loving family.
