Mr. William Joseph Lucree AKA "Bubba" was born on the feast of the Assumption of Mary, August 15, 1924 in Savannah, Ga. His late parents were Mary O'Brian Lucree and Maurice Lucree. He was one of 6 children - all boys.Bubba was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Lucree. He was the third of the brothers, all of whom preceded him in death: Maurice Lucree, James Lucree, John Lucree, Eugene Lucree, and Monsignor Lawrence Lucree. There are no other known survivors of the Lucree family. Bubba died at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center on Friday, July 20, 2018.In 1938 he entered the Army but was swiftly returned home when they realized he was only 14 years old! Later he went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps. He was proud to tell of his experiences during the war and of his participation on Iwo Jima when that famous picture of our American flag was raised. After returning to the United States he met and married the love his life, Dixie. Sadly, they had no children but their love was more than enough to carry them through 62 years of marriage. Bubba worked as an electrician for the City of Los Angeles. When he retired from that role, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where Dixie died in 2010. Shortly after that, Monsignor Lucree left to go out and bring his brother back to Georgia so he could take care of Bubba. The long term plans of their final years together were cut short when his Monsignor died in 2012. Bubba actually lived each day with a desire to die so as to meet the Blessed Mother and reunite with his family and pets. Now his goal has been accomplished!Bubba requested that if anybody wishes to make a contribution, he hoped they would do so to St. Mary's Church, 332 S. Lee St., Americus, GA 31709, in honor of his brother, Monsignor Lucree.A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10:00 AM on Friday, July 27 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Samuel Aniekwe and Deacon Bernie Bosse officiating. Interment, alongside his beloved wife Dixie, will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery. To sign our online guestbook and express your condolences, please visit www.hancockfuneralhomeinc.comHancock Funeral Home, 427 S.
