William John Williamson

Mr. William John Williamson of Preston, GA passed away on October 23, 2022 in his residence surrounded by family. Mr. Bill of "Poppy", as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was born September 25, 1934 to the late William John and Beatrice Parker Williamson. He was born in Manville, Rhode Island and raised in Laconia, New Hampshire where he attended schools. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force. Bill loved traveling, gardening, watching westerns, and spending time with his family. A man of few words, his family always knew of his unfailing love and belief in their artistic endeavors. He had a long career in logistics, building submarines for the U.S. Navy. A later second career as a tour bus driver throughout the East Coast gave him great pleasure. Bill was predeceased by his beloved parents; his brother Frederick; and sisters Dorothy and Thelma. He is survived by his only daughter, Diane Smith (Kevin) of Preston; grandchildren: Philip Williamson (Katie) of Parrott, Jesse Lassiter (Maggie) of Americus, and Rebecca "Andi" Lassiter and Taylor Smith, both of Preston; great-grandsons: William Joseph Williamson of Buena Vista and Erik Siegfried Williamson of Parrott; sons-in-love: Stephen Bowen (Doreen) and Craig Williamson of Virginia; daughter-in-love, Sheila Nolton (Wes) of Virginia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Williamson is being cremated with a celebration of life to be held at Safe Harbor Outreach Center, 118 Main Street, Parrott, GA on Thursday, October 27, at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations of rose bushes for Bill's memorial rose garden he so loved, or donations to any VA hospital.
